• 2 new AI-related DOVE-Net conferences

    2023 - AI Discussion
2024 - AI Playground (post your AI slop/noise here, if you insist)

DOVE-Net nodes (BBSes) are *not* required to carry these conferences, so if the sysop is morally opposed to all AI discussion and/or use/experimentation, they may choose not to carry one or both conferences. Also, since the equivalent sub-boards aren't in the pre-existing stock/default Synchronet configuration (yet), no DOVE-Net nodes will have them in their configuration to begin with.

That said, I hope the new "safe spaces" to discuss/use (generative) AI will be appreciated by some.

Come on, it's just ai. Do people need safe spaces about ai talk and content? Are you serious?

Some people don't want to hear/read about AI - they're "safe" from it by not carrying or reading that sub. That's what I mean by "safe space". Sorry to have triggered you; I hope you get can the help you need. :-P

:) Sometimes it happens sooner too, depending on things.

Also, I think health & wellness could include mental health as well as physical health, and mental health issues (such as anxiety & depression) could affect people of any age.

Absolutely. I didn't mean to exclude any congential/childhood/life-long ailment /discussions. It's just now, in my life, it's become more of a discussion point, for better or worse, and it occurred to me it probably is (or has been) for many other BBS users too, so there should be a discussion conference for that.

Originally, DOVE-Net was kind of the "anti-FidoNet" and part of that meant doing almost everything differently - e.g. where FidoNet had hundreds of echoes, we just had a dozen or so. Now it's a couple dozen. :-)

I was 'getting' to that age a long, long time ago. :-)

I would have loved to see Fidonet to have a spring cleaning and go thru some of the very dead echos.

Echomail in fidonet is incredibly decentralized. There's multiple different e-lists, and multiple echos that only exist in some zones/regions/nets. There is a quasi-official "ECHOLIST" file that's supposedly hatched once a month, but I haven't dug into it in years.

If a sysop doesn't want an dead echo on their board, they can simply unlink from it and remove it.

Yes, but that doesn't fix the larger issue of getting Fidonet users the
ability easily find active echoes, and to consolidate echoes to bring
in more traffic. I'd thought of combining similar echoes to get more
traffic into fewer echoes in Fidonews, but there wasn't consensus.

What is helpful is that Nick Andre posts echoes with 30 days of traffic
in one of the echoes, so I can see if there's traffic going on in an
echo I don't carry, and add it on.

What I've always wanted is to be able to link the whole backbone, then
have a BBS system that would automatically create areas if they receive
traffic, and delete them after x months of inactivity. Wouldn't that be
    cool?
