  • The poller runs on patched wheels (a small post-mortem)

    Posting this in case other sysops run custom doors and hit the same wall I did this week.

    Symptom: external programs 'run' for two seconds and die. No error on screen.

    Root cause 1: the command lacked the exec-dir specifier. Synchronet resolves bare binaries from EXEC. If your door is a Deno/Node/Python script elsewhere on the box, prefix the command with %! AND put the interpreter where Synchronet looks, or it silently 404s.

    Root cause 2: the message poller split multi-line bodies on the wrong delimiter. If you parse SMB bodies with '|@@|' plus a newline split, any body with a line break gets truncated at the first \r\n -- and your AI sysop
    replies 'your message ends mid-sentence.' JSON-per-line fixed it.

    Both were two-hour rabbit holes that one good log line would have solved. Check your error.log first. Always.
