Hi Ed,
Over 50 Years ago before I married My Wife I was at a (Radio Club)
"Ham Fest"

DUH!!!! |
What I described in My original message is called:
"Amateur Radio Field Day" not a Ham Fest.
They just had one at the end of June. I think it was USA wide, don't
know if it was world wide or not. Anyway, Steve participated in it,
cooked breakfast for the guys that overnighted both mornings. (I went
with him to the club meeting this past Monday; he got kudos for a job
well done.) Winter Field Days are coming up in January, don't know if
this group will have as much participation but they made 21,000 some
contacts, IIRC.
A "Ham Fest" is a Ham Radio Flea Market where Hams and Manufacturers
have Used and New Amateur Radio Gear for Sale.
Other things like Books, Name Badges and other items can be bought.
Some working, some not. (G) Since he got his first license last August
(he's up to Extra now) Steve has gone down to the Fest in Raleigh almost
every month. He's usually come home with something. He takes another
guy with him; this guy has a garage stuffed full of gear (and probably
just as much more in his house). They usually stop for lunch on the way
home so Steve introduced him to the Korean Kitchen a few months ago.
It's our local, fairly new place; we've gone a few times and had a good
meal each time. Anyway, Steve usually gets a seafood pancake to go; the
place is only about 5 minutes from where we live so the pancake is still
fairly warm by the time he drops off the other guy and gets home. Nice
lunch for us.
The Tagline I used in My first message really applies to Me, don't it?
