it's not a problem. Unlike when I was a kid and the wood-fired kitchen range was actually just a big radiator if there was a fire in its
    belly.

I just don't run it that much in the summer, even tho we've got central A/C. Steve did run it on low overnight recently (about 8 hours) but
that's more the exception, than the rule around here.

I do remember when I was a kid, my mom doing something in the oven
during the summer. We had no A/C so the kitchen got quite warm--doing
the dishes after supper, the oven was still putting out a good bit of heat.

Things were not so well (if at all) insulated "back in the day".

and ricotta stuffed shells, put them in toaster oven size disposable
pans with sauce and meat balls. Last night I heated one of those for
our supper. Tonight may be Italian sausages with pepper and onions on
    the grill.

According to Les it was pretty tasty. He said it would be improved
with the addition of some Parmesan. But his wife runs a Kosher
kitchen, so that was out ...... until her back was turned. Bv)=

Does she have it split into dairy and meat of everything or is it
    more of a casually kosher?

She's strictly Kosher - with two sets of everything. Les has a separate
kitchen in the basement for making his chilli, etc. In fact she attends
a conservative synagogue while Les is a member of a more main stream congregation. Both, oddly enough, have new rabbis.

    Title: Kosher Chilli Dogs
    Categories: Sandwiches, Snacks, Beef, Chilli
    Yield: 6 Servings

    6 Kosher frankfurters
    1/2 lb Hamburger
    2 tb Oil
    1 md Onion; chopped fine
15 oz Can Bush's pinto beans; opt
    8 oz Can tomato sauce
1 1/2 ts Chilli spice; McCormicks

    MMMMM-------------------------GARNISHES------------------------------
    1 md Yellow onion; diced
    Yellow (French's) mustard

    Brown hamburger in heavy skillet. Add onion and garlic;
cook until onion is tender. Add remaining ingredients and
simmer about 15 min. Preheat frankfurters and buns. Place
franks in buns; top with sauce.

Sprinkle chopped onions over top. Use yellow mustard if
desired. Some like cheese on their chilli dogs. But, if
you use cheese then the sandwich is no longer kosher.

    Hi Dave,

I do remember when I was a kid, my mom doing something in the oven
during the summer. We had no A/C so the kitchen got quite warm--doing
the dishes after supper, the oven was still putting out a good bit of heat.

Things were not so well (if at all) insulated "back in the day".

And in some areas of the country, there was little or no insulation in
houses. The house we rented in Swansboro, IIRC, had no insulation in the
attic. We added some and the heating bills went down. We added a couple
of window A/C units, another big help to keeping us comfortable. Took
those with us when we bought a used double wide mobile home that had no
    A/C.

and ricotta stuffed shells, put them in toaster oven size disposable
pans with sauce and meat balls. Last night I heated one of those for

separate kitchen in the basement for making his chilli, etc. In fact

I don't put dairy or pork in my chili but do have sour cream, plain
yogurt or cheese available as an optional add in.

    main stream
congregation. Both, oddly enough, have new rabbis.

Interesting, are the rabbis assigned or are they called by the
congregation? I grew up in one denomination that did the former but
since we've been married, have been members of a denomination that does
    the latter.
