• Ginger Gold Apples

From JIM WELLER@1:135/392 to ALL on Sun Sep 5 23:32:00 2021

These round, yellow, early maturing apples were in my store for the
first time ever. They have a firm, somewhat dry, mild, slightly tart
taste. I read that they are a fairly recent Golden Delicious X
Pippin hybrid but they are nothing at all like Golden Delicious in
    taste or texture.

Unsorted orchard run apples in huge cardboard bins were on sale this
week for just $1.79 per pound (vs $2.99 for Galas and $3.99 for
Honeycrisps) so I loaded up with a five or six pound bag. Roslind
made two pies which turned out a bit dry with hard half cooked apple
bits so she made two more but partially cooked the sliced apples
first by briefly par boiling them and also sprinkling a little
cooking liquid over the apples after they were placed on the bottom
crust. The second batch was excellent. They all had pastry bottom
crusts and oatmeal crumble topping. We gave three of them away and
    ate one.

Are they a common regular seasonal item elsewhere?

    Cheers

    Jim
