Most food service workers are so low paid they lack the savings to
stay home without pay so they will come in anyway. The industry
desperately needs mandatory short term disability pay. And yes that
kind of fringe benefit package adds to labour costs and therefore
ultimately menu prices but it should be universal anyway for the
sake of public health.
