OUCH! The chicken (I note in the small print is "President's Choice")
    is @ U$7.08.

Taking a quick look at my Hy-Vee ad for this week whole chickens are
    priced @ U$1.99/lb CA$2.52 lb/CA$5.04 kg.

I won't even try to tackle the CA$8.00/500g ground beef. OY! Vey ist mir!

As long as you can get out undetected. Bv)=

    Title: Three Stooges Roast Chicken
    Categories: Five, Poultry, Stuffing, Corn
    Yield: 4 Servings

    5 lb Chicken
    1 c Melted butter
    1 c Pepperidge Farm stuffing
    1 c Uncooked popcorn
    Salt & pepper

    Set oven to 350ºF/175ºC.

Brush chicken well with melted butter salt, and pepper.

Fill cavity with stuffing and popcorn.

Place in baking pan with the neck end toward the back
    of the oven.

Listen for the popping sounds. When the chicken's butt
blows the oven door open and the chicken flies across
    the room, it's done.

I knew you and Jim would apreciate the pictures. ;) That's why I complain
so much about the price of food. We get racked over the coals here.

Apparently I live where food proces are very "reasonable". When I hosted
the echo picnic in 2000 many of the attendees are impressed by how low
grocery store prices were. At least two of them stocked up on staple, non-perishable items to take home with them.

I won't even try to tackle the CA$8.00/500g ground beef. OY! Vey

Totally around the bend. What is holding you to the area you are in?
Surely if NWT has lower food prices than your locale - even with their loooooong supply lines and transport costs - there must be somewhere in Canuckistan more tenable price-wise and crime-rate wise.

I introduced the attendees at the Y2K picnic to the Horseshoe - a local
(now spreading widely) treat. One of the great things about echo picnics
    is experiencing new-to-you foods.

This horseshoe recipe is for a breakfast 'shoe. It won a U$25,000 top
prize in 2015. Hosted by Thomas Breads (English muffins) the contest
had 135 entries from across USA. When diner owner Mike Murphy won the
top prize he divided the 25K among the members of his staff = a really
    classy move.

Title: Charlie Parker's Diner Breakfast Horseshoe
Categories: Pork, Breads, Cheese, Sauces, Potatoes
    Yield: 1 Serving

    1 English Muffin
2 lg Eggs; cooked as desired
    4 sl Thick-cut bacon
    6 oz Cheese sauce
    6 oz Sausage gravy
    12 oz Shredded hash browns

Butter and grill both halves of an English muffin to a
    light gold appearance.

Place both halves of the English muffin on a plate,
    buttered side up.

Place 2 strips of cooked bacon on each English muffin
    half.

Ladle 6 oz of cheese sauce on one English muffin half.

Ladle 6 oz of sausage gravy on the other English muffin
    half.

Cover entire plate with freshly cooked hash brown.

UDD Notes: I've et this critter. It's good. But, there
are better (I think) breakfast shoes in Springfield.
Nearly every breakfast joint around here has a version.
The secret (if there is one) is in the cheese sauce and
    especially the sausage gravy.

There is of course. But with current health and what not it's better to be closer to Toronto as that's where all the specialists are.

    Title: Didivs'ka Iushka (Grandfather Soup)
    Categories: Soups, Vegetables, Dairy
    Yield: 1 Batch

    2 c Water
    2 ts Salt
    1/4 c Milk or Half & Half
    3 tb Butter
    2 md Potato; cubed 1/2"
    1 md Onion; chopped
    1 Carrot; julienned
    1/2 c Flour

Cube the potatoes 1/2" after peeling them. Julienne the
carrot, and chop the onion. Bring the water to a slow
boil and add the potatoes & carrot, salt, and cook for
    6 minutes.

Mix the flour, 1 tablespoon of butter, and enough of
the butter to make a stiff dough. Pinch off pieces of
the dough and roll into 1/2" ball and drop into the
    slow boiling soup.

Saute the onion in the remaining butter until they
start to brown. Add the milk & onions to the soup and
    cook for 5 more minutes.
