Yes, we got a good sized "ding" in the windshield

If there is a chip - there are several national auto-glass companies
that repair those so that they do not cause a crack-line to radiate

The big chip isn't a star crack so it has kept its shape.

That is more likely to happen in winter when the glass expands and
contracts from the periodic warm and cold.

If it ever does start to spread, we'll take appropriate action.

Once it starts to spread it's too late for the cheap fix.

    Title: Apple Chips
    Categories: Dried, Desserts, Fruit
    Yield: 1 batch

    6 tb Confectioners' sugar
    2 Granny Smith Apples

Preheat oven to 225 F and line 2 large baking sheets with
    parchment paper.

Sift 3 tablespoons confectioners' sugar evenly onto lined baking
sheets. With a mandoline or other slicer cut apples crosswise into
paper-thin slices. Arrange apple slices in one layer on sheets and
sprinkle evenly with remaining 3 tablespoons confectioners' sugar.
Bake slices in upper and lower thirds of oven, switching position
of sheets half-way through baking, 2 1/4 hours total, or until
slices are pale golden and starting to crisp. Immediately peel
apple chips off parchment and cool on a rack.

Tips: Apple chips keep in an airtight container at room temp. for
2 weeks. Recommended for garnish on ice creams and apple desserts
or as a crisp, cookie-like accompaniment.

We're just settling into autumn now. It looks like it won't be as
colorful as some years but the days of 80+ temperatures are gone until
next spring. We've had some nights in the mid 40s but no frost yet. The
last front that went thru Monday niight dumped 1.7" of rain on us in a
few hours, not nearly as bad as the north east part of the country got. Tomorrow will be a good day for baking a pumpkin roll for Steve's
    birthday.

That might be about the time we pull the trigger on a trade in. We're
looking at something nothing older than about 2016, ability for 4 wheel
drive would be a nice option. We have it (and have used it a few times)
    on the current truck. Another nice option this one has is heated seats;
it does get cold enough in the winter that having a warm seat while the
truck heats up has been appreciated.

We buy apple chips from Sam's Club or Costco. Those are made from Gala
and (IIRC) Fuji apples, a nice combination to munch on.
