Bicyclists (and weed-whacker cyclists) ride everywhere. Sidewalks (which
are supposed to be verboten), shoulders of roads, right down the middle
of the traffic lane, in & out around stopped/slow traffic, etc. Many
insist in riding *against* the traffic flow - which, in Illinois, is illegal. The law is walk on the sidewalk and if there is no sidewalk
walk on the edge of the roadway facing the traffic. Bicycles are not to
be ridden on sidewalks and should be ridden on the right edge of the
roadway in the same direction as traffic.
Ugh. Couldn't get away with that here. Too many ticket-happy cops around.
Here bicycles can get a ticket for riding on the sidewalk. They are considered vehicles and should ride on the roadway, using bike lanes if they exist.

That was Jim Bodle's usual picnic item. I believe that what he brought was really potted meat product with a new label on it.

I assume you mean "roadkill". I thought Bodle's usual was SPAM or
squid.
The "Betty Trucker Roadkill Helper" is a real thing. I have an
original box of it bought at the Union 76 Truck Stop in Grass Lake, MI.

True on all counts. For the picnics he would bring a small can marked
as roadkill and offer it to all takers. His favorite foods in the echo were spam and squid. He was also known for hating beets. I once found and sent him a recipe for "beet stuffed squid".

Our son Bryan brought us a box of roadkill helper from one of his cross country trucking runs. I'm not sure of the label, nor what has
happened to it.

Looks like it's still popular.
I remember seeing one of those boxes many years ago when I was a
boy.

Still auditioning terminal programs. For now I'm live editing the
entries in HyperTerm each use. If I could figure out how to set the download protocol in SynchTerm I could use it on your BBS and probably
on Janis'.
Or if I could find a tutorial for Netrunner or Qodem detailing how to
make and save phone-books and entries as well as assign macro keys ....

No, I just have a dry sense of humor.

For Hyperterm, you have to create a new connection file for every BBS
and after you get done, save it. It's a PITA.
Syncterm does not have a default protocol. When you're connected and ready to download, press Alt-D for "download". If you are using ZModem and have that set as your default protocol on the BBS you're calling, Syncterm can sense that and start the download automatically. On my system, I recommend using YModem instead.

Netrunner I used once and didn't like it for some reason.
Qodem:
- Keyboard macros are available via Alt-J.
See: http://qodem.sourceforge.net/qodem.1.html
- You can create phonebooks by looking in the directory that has
your phonebooks stored there (it's a simple formatted textfile).
You can get that directory by pressing 'L' in the phonebook window
as that directory is listed at the top of the new window opened.
I have never created a Qodem phonebook by hand but I'm sure it's
not difficult.
