    Hello Everyone!

I am currently working on a File/Conference Area utility that will
enable users to move conferences/file areas from location to location.
I am interested in the features that users would be looking for. Please
    let me know.

The wcsmw library has all the "configuration" functionality and formats.

However, keep in mind this is a very very complex endeavor you are
considering. It will require a very good knowledge of how the
system is designed. For example, lets say you move areas 1-100 to
201-300. You will need to make sure that all "references" to
security access and selected areas for users are changed as well
and those two are off the top of my head. Oh, another would be
that you would have to scan ALL the messages and change the Conference
number in the TMSGHEADER.Conference field. Same with File areas. Since
there are Database Indexs based on area numbers, this would be a rather extensive database reorganization.

Because of the latter, this would be a NON-SDK operation coupled with
a NON-SDK WCREPAIR like operation where you would "re-index" the databases.

Not a easy design. But if you are up to the challenge, we will assist
in providing as much technical info we can.

Sure, I am definately up for any challenge. So basically what you are
saying is that not only do I have to adjust the databases accordingly
inside the SDK with the appropriate structures, but I also have to do a re-index of the database in a NON-SDK environment. Where can I find the structures and the ways the wcrepair works?

    Hello!
Way to go, to me Wcpro/Wcreports should be a least
    even in their abilities.
It is such a important Tool for the BBS that
without it, I do not want to even try to put up
the BBS. I may have to add, CRC check, enter
descriptions on as many as 300-600 files a day, I
have a real job you know, and the only way to run
it now is full time hobby, and i have not the
    time.

I am using WCv4.20 file utility, to add the files.
and Wcprov4.20 to add the descriptions, when a
area gets to the size of a full CD i export a
xxxx0000.bbs description file and burn the
directory. then import the CD and descriptions to
WinServer. the most important "feature" missing
from WCreports file utility section is the ability
to TAG files to change descriptions on.
Without it wcreports is useless for a BBS file
    utility.

Hope to hear hector is working on expanding
    wcreports/wcfile abilitys.

Thanks for the interest, at least it is not a
lost cause, falling on deaf ears :)

    Rik

I primarly use wcFILE utility to import descriptions and what not into
the File database. I have not owned wcREPORTS/PRO since v4.20 and
haven't really seen the need for it except the nice reports it
generates. There were a couple of neat features, like the message
    utilities, etc...

I think that Hector will (hopefully) put some major thoughts into
wcREPORTS for WINS 2000. It would be a great investment if it included
all the features from the v4 series as well as conference and file area swapping, enhanced features as you discussed plus what ever else Hector
finds useful. Only time will tell.

That sounds like a good idea. Too bad it doesn't work on message
databases. Right now, my message database is pushing about 600MB right
now. It would be nice to burn them to CD and move them off the HDD. :)

It's time for a cleaning anyways. I am going to cut my messages back
to around 10k in the next week and start rebuilding the databases again.
