The skies are smoky here now but last July would have been better.

I haven't made the trip in a while but I have driven a star gazing friend on a trip about 30 minutes out of town away from all the lights. He has a small telescope that he connects to his laptop and once he has it adjusted he can zero in on just about whatever you'd like to look at.

So.. he was looking at the images on the laptop? Or, was he using the laptop to aide in pointing the telescope to the right spot in the sky. I have no idea how "computerized" telescopes work.

I don't know how they work either. No pictures on the computer. That is probably doable but you would need a way to connect the camera to the telescope and that would be non trivial.

My Bushnell Computerized Starlocator is at home now. From brief looksee of the manual, it looks like the pivot/tripod mechanism is used to "match" the numbers of the computerized part which is just a glorified index of astrological entities? Or.. is there a motor on that thing that pivots to the exact spot on the sky. If the later, I'll probably need batteries! Ugh.
