Hi Everyone,
I just wanted to make a post here to let everyone know about the new EARTH: MODIS file echo. I'm sure most, if not all of you saw file announcements with
a new file echo called MODIS, and thought, 'What the heck is that?' I
probably would have as well. :)
Below is some information about what MODIS is, and what they are used for. After the brief description, there is a long list of specifications. I
figured I'd put those towards the bottom, as they are very specific, that's
why they are 'specific'ations, right? :) Sorry, bad attempt at humor there...
Anyway, here is the information about MODIS. They release a photo of the day
of different places on earth. I think they are very interesting and some very nice pictures. If anyone would like more information on the MODIS project,
take a look at their website at

MODIS
Moderate Resloution Imaging Spectroradiometer
MODIS (or Moderate Resolution Imaging Spectroradiometer) is a key instrument aboard the Terra (originally known as EOS AM-1) and Aqua (originally known as EOS PM-1) satellites. Terra's orbit around the Earth is timed so that it passes from north to south across the equator in the morning, while Aqua passes south to north over the equator in the afternoon. Terra MODIS and Aqua MODIS are viewing the entire Earth's surface every 1 to 2 days, acquiring data in 36 spectral bands, or groups of wavelengths (see MODIS Technical Specifications). These data will improve our understanding of global dynamics and processes occurring on the land, in the oceans, and in the lower atmosphere. MODIS is playing a vital role in the development of validated, global, interactive Earth system models able to predict global change accurately enough to assist policy makers in making sound decisions
concerning the protection of our environment.
