Thanks for the ack. I couldn't seem to find this echo on a couple of

it is available here and has been for years since it was initially formed ;)
started to resign to that reality. Just lurking in it would have been satisfactory.
https://fidonet.ozzmosis.com/is a fine solution, but there is no FIDOGAZETTE.
http://www.digitaldistortionbbs.com/ has FIDOGAZETTE, but the page loads blank
MEANWHILE, with other interests in mind, I ventured onto WinPoint. Tommiset me
all up to talk to his system. An areafix request listed FIDOGAZETTE, ..and here I am. And, the other ngs/nntp/echoes behave very nicely from his system for my occassional fallback with Thunderbird too.

I would guess that Andrew Clark just never bothered to update his pages with new/changed echomail areas, though I don't really know <g> If I get some free time later today I'll send him a netmail and ask him about it.
Btw, for Fidogazette backissues, you can download all the issues here: http://www.filegate.net/fidogazette/

I go to the IFDC site to get the Gazette and FIDONews...so I
can have them on the BBS. Stormy weather here lately (it's
tornado season) has kept the BBS offline more than usual...and
the peak of the season isn't until May.
http://www.digitaldistortionbbs.com/ has FIDOGAZETTE, but the page loads
blank.
Strange that it's coming up blank. If it were working, it would probably look like this, which is the same echo presented on my own site:
https://bbs.electronicchicken.com/?page=001-forum.ssjs&sub=fido_fidogaze
A Search feature to find relevant messages within a "Forum" would be
really nice though. But I guess the idea is to first make the content accessible (no membership required) and then hopefully draw people in to join after which they can use their own offline readers.
When I was hunting for the fidogazette echo, one of the first google results was digitaldistortionbbs.com (with the broken fidogazette page). I had no idea there might be other Synchronet bbses like yours with the same web interface.
Stormy weather keeps the BBS offline? Why? I mean I can see if
your place gets wiped out by a tornado, but... does your power go
out frequently or something?

In a word, lightning. I am a 2 time lightning strike survivor
(at 3 and 16)...they were indirect, but I still got a severe
shock, and have nervous system damage as a result. I've also been
under 2 tornadic funnel clouds, within a mile of an F-1 and an
F-4 rain wrapped tornado, and nearly drowned in a flash flood on
the local college campus 40 years ago.
In short, NO AMOUNT OF SURGE PROTECTION is going to save your
system from a direct or very close lightning strike. I'd rather
be offline for a few hours or days, rather than permanently.
Behind Florida, Arkansas is the most in the country with
lightning strikes.

Wow! OK, I guess I can see that. Be careful out there!

On the matter of the newsletters, it would be cool if they would be searchable (as a database). I was contemplating such a project myself. But I seem to remember that someone had already done that many years ago. Not sure how to find out anymore.

Ever think of making the collection searchable, online?

I've been trying to get Ubuntu's htdig to work to index that list of archives, and create a searchable DB.. still working on it..
Hopefully I'll get it work soon. So far no luck though... <sigh>

Does your web server support CGI pages written in perl? If so I can share the
search function I wrote for the FTSC web site.

I could do that... just a little more work... Right now I'm
wrapped in a tale of mages, witches and vampires though..
so it will have to wait until probably tomorrow :)

Literally? Or are you playing some RPG game, e.g. Skyrim?
