Sorry for the delay in replying. I was involved in a multi-vehicle wreck yesterday (another car besides mine, plus a pickup truck and a trailer). I
got rear ended on the right side, then spun around across the road, and was
hit by another car, that hit the pickup truck head on, and sent it into a
power pole.

My airbags didn't deploy, but all of them did in the other vehicles. They
had to call the paramedics and the fire department along with the police to clean up the wreck...and to repair damaged utility lines. I was able to "walk away" from the wreck...but at least one passenger had to be ambulatory to an area hospital.

However, with the car being so old, the insurance company will likely total it, and I'll get nothing for it. Unless I can get significant compensation
from other insurance company (thank God everyone else, including me, had car insurance), I'm going to be without transportation.

So, my BBS work is limited to QWK Mail, and updating the ham radio and weather data for awhile.

The 2004 Buick LeSabre that I had was heavily damaged, and even though
it didn't have 72,000 miles on it, if the cost to repair it is more
than 80% of its value (according to a NADA website, it might be $1500 in
its current condition), they'll total it.

I may be able to get groceries delivered, but may have to switch
pharmacies. I had to cancel a long planned train trip in June (I was
hoping to "get away from things for a week"), because of the financial
deal now. I likely will have to go back to a bland diet of lunch meat
and flavored water only (I did need to lose weight, anyway).

But, I likely won't leave the Little Rock area ever again. The thing
is, you are taking your life in your hands, in just getting out of bed
in the morning.

You could always get an ambulance chaser lawyer to help you sue the person that hit you and started the chain reaction. Since the accident wasn't your fault...

OMG. I glad you made it out alive!

The airbags didn't deploy in my car, but did in the other 2
vehicles. But, the wreck may have aggravated issues in my neck,
as I'm getting chiropractic treatment (the Monday treatment was
ROUGH).

At least I can get delivery of groceries and from my
pharmacy...and a friend will take me to the Post Office
(we both have a Post Office Box there) once a week. But,
otherwise, except for taking Uber to/from the chiropractic
facility, I'm stuck at home.

It was my first wreck in 43 years.

The BBS work is limited to updating ham radio and weather data, and

My late wife had one cardinal rule: LEAVE THE TOILET SEAT DOWN!!

Now, I grew up with a brother, and didn't know women required such,
or that it took them "forever and a day to get ready" (reference the
song by Brad Paisley, "Waitin' On A Woman"....Andy Griffith is in the

Well, both companies have received the police report as well as damage photos. The one who hit me, then hit another vehicle head on, was charged
in the wreck. Technically, if you "rear end" someone, you're at fault, as
you should've been able to stop.

The car was totaled out, and I'm getting far more than I expected from
my insurance company. I found a pre-owned 2009 Volvo 2 door convertible
for a good price, at a family owned dealership, that has been in business
for over 30 years. So, I've put a deposit down on it, and will get it
Friday afternoon. They don't make cars like they used to, so no matter
how it's built, if you're in a wreck, it may end up getting totaled out.
I just wanted something simple for local area transportation, and nothing fancy.

I've talked to agents and adjusters from both companies, and am waiting
on the "at fault" company to call with a settlement proposal. With as much
as the lawyers take out on a settlement, it may be better just to "take
the money and run". Except for undergoing chiropractic treatment, I was basically unhurt. Yet, in these type of wrecks, injuries don't show up
until a few days after it (today marks a week since the wreck).

I'll get reimbursed for my deductible, having the car totaled, for lack

for sale and how much for? Check autotrader.com maybe. If the offer isn't comparable to the price, you don't have to accept it.

That's true. Before my wife died 14 years ago, we'd watch these police
videos of them catching these car thieves. Basically, the police would
plant a fancy car (rigged with hidden recording devices) in an area that
had been having numerous car thefts...yet they could monitor everything
with it. They would purposely leave keys in the car, and the doors all unlocked, to make the "bait" more attractive. <G>

Well, these 2 thugs went for it...hook, line, and sinker (puns intended <G>), and one was protesting that "this must be a rigged car", but his
partner in crime ignored him. The cops were laughing at the behavior of
both thugs...but after a few minutes, they decided to go in. At the
signal, they pressed a control, which locked the windows and doors (they
were inoperable from the inside, once that control was activated)...and
on the radio, it started playing the theme from "Cops" -- "What 'cha
gonna do when they come for you??" <G>. And, the car was then surrounded
by cops. <G>

Well, they totaled the car, and I didn't think I'd get $1000 for it. Yet,
I'm to get nearly $5300 for it. However, I have to provide a copy of the title, but it wasn't in the bank vault. I'm hoping it's in the glove compartment, and I'm to go to the collision shop Saturday (I can't get
there in time today (Friday), to get all the items from there, and other
items in the car. If it is, I can just take a picture of it, and send it
to the claims department, and they'll have that money in my bank account
the next day. And, since it's an electronic funds transfer, I'll be able
to use it immediately. If it's not there, since Monday is a holiday, I have
to go to a Revenue Office, and order a replacement title for $10...but it
will take 3 weeks to process. At least I have funding to pay all the bills
this month.
