Sorry for the delay in replying. I was involved in a multi-vehicle wreck yesterday (another car besides mine, plus a pickup truck and a trailer). I got rear ended on the right side, then spun around across the road, and was
hit by another car, that hit the pickup truck head on, and sent it into a power pole.

Got it in Arkansas.

Holy crap man. That sucks! I hope you are ok. If you airbags didn't
go off was it a slow speed impact with that truck?
It was still powerful enough to send me spinning, where I was hit by another car.
I'm undergoing precautionary chiropractic care...my airbags didn't
deploy, but they did in the other vehicles. Knowing that the insurance company is going to try to get out of Dodge with as little damage as possible, I've contacted a local law firm.
The thing is, you are taking your life in your hands, in just getting out DS> of bed in the morning.
The 2004 Buick LeSabre that I had was heavily damaged, and even though
it didn't have 72,000 miles on it, if the cost to repair it is more
than 80% of its value (according to a NADA website, it might be $1500 in its current condition), they'll total it.
OMG. I glad you made it out alive!
I had something like that happen to me many years ago. Wrote off the
car I was driving.
You never know when <whatever it might be> might happen. I hope this incident doesn't slow you down or stop you from whatever it is you are doing.
"It's a dangerous business, Frodo, going out of your door," he used to say. "You step into the Road, and if you don't keep your feet, there is
no knowing where you might be swept off to."
You could always get an ambulance chaser lawyer to help you sue the
person that hit you and started the chain reaction. Since the accident wasn't your fault...
Did you have comprehensive insurance on the car? Or just liability?
Well, I'm looking at getting an attorney...but we have to see what the extent of my injuries are. I'm undergoing chiropractic care during the week (I had burning in my neck the other night, so there's likely nerve damage). With these wrecks, injuries take a few days to show up.
I would recommend you get an attorney, especially since you were in the middle of a chain reaction. The insurance companies could decide you
were somehow at fault. They might also be able to help you get more
for your car and injuries. Since you have liability and comprehensive, your insurance company may provide and/or require you to use an
attorney they work with.
I was at fault in an accident many years ago and my insurance company provided an attorney that I had to use, and they represented me. Then
the insurance company paid the settlement to the other party.
The car was totaled out, and I'm getting far more than I expected from
my insurance company. I found a pre-owned 2009 Volvo 2 door convertible
for a good price, at a family owned dealership, that has been in business for over 30 years. So, I've put a deposit down on it, and will get it
Friday afternoon. They don't make cars like they used to, so no matter
how it's built, if you're in a wreck, it may end up getting totaled out.
I just wanted something simple for local area transportation, and nothing fancy.
I've talked to agents and adjusters from both companies, and am waiting
on the "at fault" company to call with a settlement proposal. With as much as the lawyers take out on a settlement, it may be better just to "take
the money and run". Except for undergoing chiropractic treatment, I was basically unhurt. Yet, in these type of wrecks, injuries don't show up
until a few days after it (today marks a week since the wreck).

I'll get reimbursed for my deductible, having the car totaled, for lack
of transportation, and for pain and suffering. I just want this chapter behind me.
There you go. If you can afford it, have an independent mechanic go
over the car first and make sure the dealership provides you with a
carfax report. The last thing you want is to drive home and the axle
fall off or something.
Volvo's are solid cars. Built to last, they have to be for the Swedish conditions!

Less fancy cars don't get stolen :)
Have you looked online to find if a car the same or similar to yours is for sale and how much for? Check autotrader.com maybe. If the offer
isn't comparable to the price, you don't have to accept it.
I don't blame you. I hope they settle fairly.
So do I. Once I have transportation, I can get to medical
appointments. I now apparently have neck, back, and tailbone
issues...the latter is a real PITA...and it's not yet time for my colonoscopy. <G>
Sorry for your misfortune.
But do you really think the Fidonet test area is the proper place to discuss this?
