    Hello August,

Can anyone succeed in getting a DIR listing after ftp'ing into trmb.synchro.net?

Indeed, I just added a setting to my sbbs.ini that I am hoping will make my ftp site more accessible. It has been working for some and not for others.

If anyone has the time I'd be intereted in hearing about success and/or failure with ftp at trmb.synchro.net.

It just hangs at that last line forever.

It DOES work for me on the same machine when using FileZilla. A quick Google search says that the Windows ftp command line client only uses active mode whereas other clients such as FileZilla & WinSCP offer passive mode.

My guess is that my router doesn't support active FTP transfers, which I believe is quite common behind NAT.

Maybe try FileZilla on the same machine and see if it's the same for you?

I've just fired up the Win10 command line version of ftp and I had no problems whatsover with your site. Everything went as sweet as a nut, including d/loading a couple of files.

So, it's obviously a Total Commander related problem at my end but what
that the problem is, is anyone's guess. Do you still want the logfile?

Maybe try FileZilla on the same machine and see if it's the

    https://filezilla-project.org

FileZilla is a staple prog here for many years. It just doesn't
seem to want to work with TRMB BBS.

Meanwhile, I just learned that the CLI version of ftp doesn't
work with TRMB from my Win7(64) laptop at home. SO... this
indeed is a mystery to me 'cuz I don't have a problem using
FileZilla or CLI ftp with other servers.

My solution will be this: configure my remote Win7(64) desktop
pc to "get trmb.qwk" and then either "put trmb.qwk" to an ftp
server that I can access from my XP pc, or email the file from a
    script.

WinSCP has some good scripting functions. In another life I used WinSCP to download some label files from one of our transportation partners. When a label file appeared in a certain directory another program sprang to life and printed it automatically on one of our label printers.

Previous to that the guys back in logistics had to manually download those files and print them.

My guess: "active" versus "passive" FTP. The Windows command-line FTP client (ftp.exe) does not support passive FTP mode (active mode only).

Most modern FTP clients (including web browsers that still support FTP), use passive FTP mode by default.

Total Commander's ftp client uses passive mode by default but it can be disabled. When enabled, I don't get very far into the ftp session before
the connection drops. When disabled, I can get as far as getting a
directory listing but changing directories is very hit 'n miss and usually ends up with a connection drop.

However, as I said in an earlier post, the Win10 command line version of 'ftp' performs as sweet as a nut.

    Regards,
    Martin

    Command:PORT 192,168,0,2,13,68

That is different than what I see. 192.168.*.* is a lan address?

This is what I see here..

    ls
    227 Entering Passive Mode (104,246,155,40,4,0)
150 Opening ASCII mode data connection for /bin/ls
    -r--r--r-- 1 trmb trmb 512 Feb 13 00:33 00index

    and it completes as expected.

I suspect that this is a hardware, rather than configuration issue.
