I had some permission problems with both Ubuntu server and Lubuntu. Has anyone
else exprienced the same? Some files I could not access. Some files would not
write. The upgrade was on two different machines. Does anyone know of a "fix"?
Is this an isolated incident?

chown -R username:group /sbbs
I hope that'll help.

I don't know why your having problems. I run slackware myself and have had problems with permissions at times. Maybe a file was created by root and others
can't read it?
When I've had problems I chown the directory along with all the files and directories within.
chown -R username:group /sbbs
If you run that command as root it'll change the ownership of all the files and
directories in /sbbs to the user and group you provide.
I hope that'll help.
