I just updated to the current prealpha and messages seem to get a TZUTC kludge that says 0000, and the time stamp of messages seems to be using UTC time. Is it supposed to work that way?

Its pulling that information from your system settings (or should be).

Check that /etc/localtime and /etc/timezone are set correctly and we can go from there

I don't have an /etc/timezone, never did that I know of. I do have an /etc/localtime and it is set to Pacific Daylight Time or America/Vancouver.

The date command says the time is currently Thu Oct 15 00:55:10 PDT 2020. My timestamp will be +7 hours I think.

What Linux distro are you using? I think you can also set the TZ environment variable and it will read that. I'll have to double check all of the steps it takes to find the timezone but different distributions do different things so I'll start with that.

Perfect. I'll need to dig through code and refresh myself with the various things it looks for to try to get the timezone. I test under Ubuntu so its been a long time since I've tried Slack.

And please let us know if you need some help with that. The least we can do is help you out with a hard drive with all you do for us.

Yep, spinning up various distros can be a PITA. I would try a live cd if you don't need an actuall install. One of these might work for you. I'd suggest one of the XFCE versions since they are small and would get a quick slackware environment up for you.
