• Squish for Windows?

From Alan Ianson@1:153/757 to All on Sat May 15 00:05:11 2021
    Hello All,

Somewhere around 2000 after the Maximus and Squish source was released I remember reading about a windows build of Squish.

It wasn't built by Lanius but it was built from the Squish sources.

Does anyone use that build or know anywhere that it can be found today?

I wonder if that build is fit for use?

    Ttyl :-),
    Al

I always thought it was strange there was an official release of Maximus for Windows NT, but not Squish!

Does anyone use that build or know anywhere that it can be found
    today?

    I have these:

sq111n-2002-10-28.zip Windows NT port of Squish 1.11 by Serguei Trouchelle msgapint.zip Squish MsgAPI DLL for Windows NT, from the Maximus 3.02 release squish_n.zip Windows NT port of Squish 1.11. No documentation. Binaries only. sqwin32.zip Squish MSGAPI API for Windows NT. Headers, libraries (MSGAPINT.LIB & MSGAPINT.DLL) and documentation, from Dylan Griffiths.

I can't vouch for any of them. Beware of potential Y2K bugs, at minimum.

Though from what I recall the 3.02 release of Maximus for Windows NT was Y2K-compliant, which included MSGAPINT.DLL. However the DLL might not necessarily be compatible with the unofficial NT port of Squish. You'll need to experiment a bit and report back to us :)

Incidentally there's the TUB echo, for Squish users. I believe it's still vaguely active.

That's what I was looking for. I had read folks talking about them but I have never come across them myself.

    Will do.

The best I could do is wine and I don't think that's a good test environment.

Yes, it is. Quiet maybe but it is linked.

I was actually seeking these files on behalf of a node here about running squish. I think these will do nicely.

There are also modified sources from 2016:

    https://sourceforge.net/projects/maximus/files/maximus/maximus3.02-lanius/dev/maxs_302.1.20161022.zip/download

    changes.txt says:

    Significantly updated MaximusSourceDoc.
Added convenience build scripts for all targets.

Needs Watcom as a compiler, maybe works with OpenWatcom too.

That's very interesting. I wonder who's been updating?

I'll have a look and see.
