Are either of those nets active? I sent in emailed requests to join both of them last month, and have never heard back. I'm wondering if they are just dead, or if the emails you send apps to are no longer checked.

Scinet is pretty active. Frank/Netsurge processes applications every so often, I think I waited about 6-8 weeks and then he got back to me.

Scinet is active. SFnet is also. For SFnet, were you trying to join as an
FTN node or a QWK node?

I'm FTN all the way, no QWK.

I filled out the applications and emailed them to their respective internet email addresses, but haven't heard anything back about getting hooked up.

I would try again on SFnet. Dallas has been pretty active lately getting people hooked up. If you want, cc: ccoky (at) iglou (dot) com. I will get
a copy and can inquire with Dallas to make sure he also got it (and that it didn't go in his spam folder).

So, it turns out that Dallas was responding to my application for SFNet, but my ISP was shoving it in a spam folder before it even got to me, and I never saw it.
Why they would mark that as spam and not the actual spam that gets through their filter, I don't know, but I offer a humble and public apology to Dallas for saying that he hasn't responded to me. He actually did, the same day I sent my application in, but thanks to my ISP, I never saw it.

Haven't heard from SCINet yet, and they aren't in the spam filter, but I'm good with SFNet.
