Just added this group to my bbs and hope to be posting occasionally. Hope to one day take a trip thru the Rockies by rail before I kick the bucket.

My dad worked for a Railway Maintenance company for many years and worked on the tracks in 49 of the 50 states and also Australia after working for MoPac for several years as a mechanic.

    Greetings Tim!

Like you I too just discovered this group a few weeks back and glad to see
    more train folks online!!!

There are quite a few Rocky Mountain train runs! I have only done two of the many: Durango Silverton, Cumbres and Toltec. Kinda sad being I only live 3 hours south of them in central New Mexico. LOL But I hope to get to more of them sooner than later!

    Thanks for the welcome Shane.

Ray Sbaitso told me about this group so we added it to my board. There are 2 groups showing up as areas, RAILFAN & RAILFANS. I added the RAILFANS one first and there was no traffic so went back and added RAILFAN and started picking up the messages here.

My dad worked all over them from a hi-rail truck. He said it was pretty darn scary in places especially when the guy driving would really get to running fast. I can only imagine. I'm in Arkansas so it may be a while (if ever) before I get to take a trip through them. Hoping to one day tho.

I saw an episode of Great Scenic Railways on PBS (I think that's the name
of it anyhow) that showed a trip on a first class train with some custom viewing cars through the Canadian Rockies. I can't imagine how much it
costs, but it looked like an amazing trip.

    Step #1 - Win lottery! :)

    Well, it's a plan anyhow....

Your step #1 is probably the only way I'll ever get to take the trip also! ha!
Would love to do it some day tho. I've yet to get to take a long ride on a train.

My wife was flipping channels a few nights back and our PBS was running Great Scenic Railways so she Tivo'd it for me. But my 5 yr old Layla has always
loved trains and could hear it on when my wife was flipping channels and ran
to the living room so she and Layla watched 30 mins of Greate Scenic Railways! Layla use to watch all kinds of train vids on youtube for years till bigger sister turned her onto Barbie but Choo Choo Boy(Polar express) is her favorite movie she has seen at least 100 times.

Here is a link to her 3 years ago as back then we would ride the Rail Runner from Abq up to Santa Fa once a month to get lunch and let her enjoy the rails.

Sorry to derail just thought I'd share! ;)
