umonitor has command-line options to change the output mode, try playing with those:
-iX = set interface mode to X (default=auto) where X is one of:
X = X11 mode
C = Curses mode
F = Curses mode with forced IBM charset
I = Curses mode with forced ASCII charset
A = ANSI mode
gtkmonitor is a GUI application, so I'm not sure what you mean by "stay in the same TAB" - same tab as *what*, a console/terminal?

This helped don't know how I missed it on the wiki!

See if I can explain this, a few upgrades back I could open a windows type
./umonitor or ./gtkmonitor and gui/program would open in (that) same window.
Now however I open a new gnome windows do the same commands and then another
gnome-terminal window opens while the old gnome-terminal window that I set the command stays open also. Then the good part if I scroll up to System Options
to configure something on the bbs then I have three gnome-terminals open.
I hope that helped explain it better.
Did you use that exact command line, or are you offering this as an example? (Just checking - those are Deuce's domains and you should be subbing in your own.)
