How can I block SMTP login attempts permanetly? Adding the address to one of the .can files doesn't seem to do the trick. Thanks

    SMTP logins? Huh?

Turn off the email server if you don't want any SMTP connections.

Turn off smtp, or block the port.

I've had several with @synchro.net slam the SMTP port, and I've
    ended up blocking them.

    gamgee> SMTP logins? Huh?

if you have email enabled for your users, they connect to your SMTP to send email... they authenticate against their record in the sbbs user file... spammer bots attempt to do the same thing with purloined
    credentials...

if they are reading news via your server and they write a private reply to a news article, that reply will go via your SMTP server... again, with authentication against the sbbs user file...

then email in/out of the BBS won't work...

Yup... I realized that's what he meant about 1 microsecond after
    I hit "send"... :-)

True, but it does stop the SMTP logins... :-)

I don't even bother with it, because who really needs another
email address via a BBS? (that's my opinion, anyway).

There's enough e-mail providers already. I suppose if you want your BBS to provide a bbs e-mail address, it'd be more of a personal preference. If you have a script that verifies legitimate user information, you wouldn't need a bbs e-mail for that.

I use that mainly for the Telnet Email Verifier.

I use it mainly for the telnet email verifier. I had sent some emails
from it, but usually do it through GMail, or the amateur radio mode of
    Winlink 2000.
