• File Transfer Features on the chopping block

From Digital Man@1:103/705 to All on Sun Mar 28 21:51:38 2021
If you use one of these Synchronet file transfer features, speak now (or forever hold your peace):
    1. Bi-directional file transfers
    2. User-to-user file transfers
    3. Alternate file paths
    4. Temporary file menu/features

If you don't know what these features are, then it's probably safe to say that you're not using them (and don't need to ask me what it is), but these features are likely going away in v3.19. The temporary file menu could (possibly will) be reimplemented as a JS module, but not immediately.

    2. User-to-user file transfers

unrelated, but i tried to do this on another board the other day.

of the lot that seems useful still.

sorry, didn't know they were separate (don't think 2.30c had email attachments?)

doesn't seem like you'd need the overlapping features then, yeah.

v2 had email (and netmail) file attachments too.

doesn't seem like you'd need the overlapping features then, yeah.

The primary advantage to user-to-user file transfers (or file attachments to mail) was that a single file could be "sent" to multiple users without making copies of it.

    Possibly. Let's discuss to confirm.

With the capabilities of modern operating/file systems, I don't think they're needed or even the appropriate solution to the problem.

    Are you using them?
