I had no idea they were going to do a Picard spin off. Looks like it could
    be interesting.

It is nice to see some sort of TNG reboot or spin off. We have seen it Discovery being in the TOS timeline but nothing for TNG

Like Discovery it won't mean much for Generations continuity unless it is on
on network TV where every one can watch it.

If it's not on Network TV it becomes just like all the fan based books and internet things that don't hold much toward moving the storyline along in
    Star Trek cannon history.

Personally I think Network/Cable TV is dying a slow death. I haven't had
cable in my house for over 2 years. I have an OTA antenna that provides me
with about 20 local stations for news and events and everything else consumed by my family is online based (Netflix, Prime Video, etc...).

My point exactly. Just because it isn't on a network station doesn't mean it won't preform well or be consider akin to novels or fan fiction.

The season 2 premiere of Discovery was watched by over 24 million people. Compare that to just north of 12 million people who tuned in for the first episode of Enterprise.

The Picard series definitely isn't a reboot; it sounds like a spinoff or continuation taking place years later.

It seems like this and future Star Trek series may be on CBS streaming service though. I think CBS owns the rights to the Star Trek TV series now, and they want to promote their streaming service.

I'm the same way. I've actually never had cable TV while I've lived out on my own - I watch over-the-air TV and stream some things online. I also have a Plex media server I set up at home a while ago so I can stream movies & TV shows over my local network.

I like Discovery, but I still have mixed feelings about it. At least Enterprise kept the Klingon look, whereas Discovery has changed the look of the Klingons. I still don't think they've explained that very well.

It looks good but.. I don't know, Picard's supposed to be about 90 years old in the show (based on calculations made between a coworker and myself, yeah we talked about it at length). I mean, how old is too old to be captain?

First thing I noticed is that the command bridge is far more advanced than previous incarnations. To me, it seems to have lost the flavor of star trek. I'll know when it comes out.

I wish they would start with a new crew. 7 of 9's facial thingie borg implant looks like a silicon toy they glued on her face purchased from a star trek convention.

I'll shutup now before I get flamed.

I don't remember how old he was supposed to be in TNG.. I thought he looked like he was in his 50s at the time. For the Picard show, that would make him in his 70s. Though perhaps he is closer to 90. But who knows.. It seems people in the Star Trek universe live longer than people today. They had an old Dr. McCoy in an early eposide of TNG (was it the pilot?).

First thing I noticed is that the command bridge is far more advanced than previous incarnations. To me, it seems to have lost the flavor of star trek. I'll know when it comes out.

The Picard show will take place about 20 years after the events of Nemesis. Of
course things will look more advanced. I don't think that would be much of a surprise.

I wish they would start with a new crew. 7 of 9's facial thingie borg implant looks like a silicon toy they glued on her face purchased from a star trek convention.

If it were a new crew, then it wouldn't be the Picard show.
